ANIMAL RIGHTS & DOG AGING

On the Sunday, May 31 episode of Animal Matters, hosts Jeff Simmons and Erin Clarke explore the intersection of animal advocacy, public policy, science and the human-animal bond.

The first guest is Allie Feldman Taylor, Founder and Board Member of Voters for Animal Rights. She joins the show to discuss the organization’s top animal protection priorities in Albany and New York City, including legislative efforts involving companion animals, wildlife, animals in entertainment, pet stores, spay/neuter access, community cats and more. With the state legislative session nearing its close and primary season underway, the conversation will focus on how humane voters can make animal welfare part of the political conversation.

In the second half of the show, Newsday reporter Lisa L. Colangelo joins Animal Matters to discuss her recent story on the Dog Aging Project, a national study that follows dogs over time to better understand why some live longer, healthier lives while others develop illnesses earlier. The conversation will look at what researchers are learning, what dog owners can take away from the project, and how canine aging research may also shed light on human health and longevity.

Tune in Sunday, May 31, at 9:00 AM ET on WBAI 99.5 FM NY or stream live at wbai.org.
